THE FIRST EI ALAMEIN CLASH IN JULY 1942, HOW THE BRITISH 8th ARMY SUFFERED A BITTER DEFEAT IN GAZELLE. Although the Axis commanders were taken aback at the violence of the assault, the Eighth Army’s progress was painfully slow; the British armour failing to get to grips with the enemy, On 2nd November, Rommel signalled to Hitler that the battle was lost. The first El Alamein clash came in July 1942. The British 8th Army had suffered a bitter defeat in Gazala, Libya, in June.  Rommel had pushed the British and Commonwealth Troops back into Egypt.  Then Commander-in-Chief Middle East General Claude Auchinleck made his stand at El Alamein. Despite stopping Rommel in his tracks, Auchinleck was relieved of command in early August.  His replacement would be General Bernard Montgomery: the man who would finally kick the Axis out of North Africa once and for all. By mid-October 1942, Montgomery could deploy approximately double the number of men and tanks available to Rommel’s German-Italian a

ON MAY 29, 1942, THE JEWS IN THEIR VILLAGE IN BELARUS WERE MARCHED OUT OF THE TO THE LOCAL CEMETERY AND THEY WERE BEEN EXECUTED,  Despite Germany being the most extreme offenders, the Soviet union too has a long History of antisemitism. Many of the survivors of WW2 were "l still remember the young girl, slender and dark, who, passing near me, pointed at herself, saying, "twenty-three."I walked around the mound and faced a frightful common grave. Tightly packed corpses were heaped so close together that only the heads showed. Most were wounded in the head, and the blood flowed over their shoulders. Some still moved. Others raised their hands and turned their heads to show that they were still alive. The ditch was two-thirds full. I estimate that it held a thousand bodies. On this day 22nd July 1944. In Ukraine, the Brody Pocket was eliminated; after an attempted breakout by German troops, Soviet forces captured 17,000 German prisoners of war. In the early hours of July 21, the approximately 30,000 men left in Hauffe’s command began the breakout attempt.  Since there were few roads in the area, the breakout forces had to literally line vehicles bumper to bumper in order to negotiate the inhospitable terrain.  Things went wrong almost from the start as the Red Air Force appeared at daybreak in waves. As Russian fighters, bombers, and ground attack aircraft flew unopposed, some at treetop level, columns of smoke and fire erupted among the assembled vehicles.  Large sections of the column

THE TERRIBLE INCIDENT THAT LEAD TO THE EXECUTION OF DENSHAWAI 1906, EGYPT....

Denshawai Incident ― 1906, Egypt  On 13 June 1906, five officers of the occupying British army, with their interpreter and a police official, visited Denshawai ( دنشواي ) to go pigeon shooting. They accidentally shot pigeons belonging to villagers who kept them as domestic animals, angering the owners. The pigeons were also a source of food for the poor villagers which further enraged the villagers because the British officers were shooting them for fun.  However, the major catalyst was the accidental shooting of the wife of the prayer leader at the local mosque. Enraged, the Egyptians mobbed the British officers and camp. The British officers, alarmed, opened fire on the mob, wounding five, and set fire to the grain of Abd-el-Nebi. Abd-el-Nebi, whose wife had been seriously injured, struck one of the officers with a stick. He was joined by the elderly Hassan Mahfouz, whose pigeons had been killed. Other villagers threw stones at them. The officers, two Irishmen and three Englishmen,

THE HEROIC STORY OF SHIZUYA HAYASHI OF WAIALUA, A PRIVATE IN THE U.S. ARMY...

Shizuya Hayashi of Waialua, Hawaii, a Private in the U.S. Army, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary actions on November 29, 1943, near Cerasuolo, Italy. Hayashi was born to Japanese immigrant parents and was a Nisei, meaning he was a second-generation Japanese-American.  He joined the Army in March 1941 and volunteered to be a part of the all-Nisei 100th Infantry Battalion, made up of Japanese-Americans from Hawaii and the mainland.  On November 29, 1943, during a flank assault on high ground held by the enemy near Cerasuolo, Italy, Private Hayashi rose alone in the face of grenade, rifle, and machine gun fire. Firing his automatic rifle from the hip, he charged and overtook an enemy machine gun position, killing seven men in the nest and two more as they fled.  After his platoon advanced 200 yards from this point, an enemy antiaircraft gun opened fire on the men. Private Hayashi returned fire at the hostile position, killing nine of the enemy, taking four prisoners,

THE TERRIBLE EXECUTION OF THE NAZI WAR CRIMINAL (RUTH CLOSIUS) THEY MUST PAY FOR THEIR EVIL DEED

Ruth Closius - Nazi war criminal. Ruth Closius was born in Breslau in Germany on the 5th of July 1920. She married a man named Neudeck and in some accounts is called Ruth Closius-Neudeck. She had belonged to the SS guard staff of Ravensbrück and had worked there in various capacities from the 3rd of July 1944, including work in the punishment barracks in late 1944. She was promoted to Oberaufseherin (senior supervisor), at Uckermark in early 1945 and worked there until the camp was liberated. The third Ravensbrück trial, also called the "Uckermark trial", was held at the British Military Court in Hamburg between April 14th and April 26th 1948 to hear the cases of five women officials from the Uckermark concentration camp and extermination complex.   This was a satellite camp that housed girls aged 16 – 21.  Two of the women were acquitted, two received prison terms but Ruth Closius was condemned to death on the 26th of April 1948, having confessed to the torture and murder o

THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE CHICAGO RACE RIOT OF 1919

CHICAGO RACE RIOT OF 1919 With our daily news still sadly filled with stories of racial unrest, we look back at the bloody summer of 1919 and the riots that wreaked havoc in Chicago, starting on July 27. It was a horrific event that lasted for a week, leaving 38 people dead and another 500 injured -- and it was started by a thrown rock. The 1919 Chicago Riots were started by a gang member from the notorious Ragen's Colts, a mostly Irish bunch from the Stockyards neighborhood.  The Colts dated back to the 1890s, when the Ragen’s Athletic and Benevolent Association started a baseball team, the Morgan Athletic Club. The star pitcher was a rough and tumble Irish lad named Frank Ragen. By 1902, the club had 160 members and held an annual fund-raising minstrel show, a picnic and a ball, which citizen’s reform groups regularly denounced for its debauchery and drunkeness.  The proceeds from the fundraisers, augmented by “donations” from the Democratic Party faithful, paid for a building o

THE WORST AND TERRIBLE MASSACRE OF INDIANS THAT WILL NEVER FORGET...

Today, 101 years back, was a massacre which Indians will never forget or forgive. On this day, 1516 causalities occurred when 1650 bullets were fired within a very short span of time !!! . . .  Jallianwala Bagh !!!   The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre is one of the most brutal and gory events in India’s history that resulted in the death of about 1,000 people. What accelerates the incident’s gravity is the fact that the British soldiers under Acting Brigadier Reginald Dyer had opened fire in front of a mass of innocent unarmed people. In the year 1919, the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre had occurred on the day of Baishakhi or Vaishaki, a major Punjabi festival, on April 13. Since then, on this day people of India remember the lives of numerous people who died that day and those, who remained alive to recount the horror. Here are some of the important points regarding the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that one SHOULD  know 1. The incident took place in Jallianwala Bagh, an enclosed garden in Amritsa

NEARLY 4,000 AFRICAN AMERICANS WERE LYNCHED IN ONE 73-YEAR PERIOD..

Nearly 4,000 African Americans Were Lynched In One 73-Year Period between 1877 and 1950, 3,959 African Americans were lynched — 700 more incidents than had ever been calculated before, black lynchings in the South occurred when unsubstantiated suspicions arose about black involvement in white society, and when African Americans actively resisted racial subordination. In 1904, a man named General Lee was accused of knocking on a white woman's door in Reevesville, South Carolina. He was lynched by a white mob. When World War I veteran William Little refused to remove his army uniform in front of a group of white men in Blakely, Georgia, in 1919, he was also attacked and lynched by a mob. THE HEROIC STORY OF JIGGS THE FIRST MARINE BULLDOG MASCOT...

Jiggs, the first Marine bulldog mascot.  In 1922, a formal ceremony was held to enlist a Marine that would serve for life. On October 14, 1922, Private Jiggs officially became the Marine Corps mascot and within two years had become a sergeant major.  However, bulldogs tend to have a shorter life span and he passed away in 1927 with full military honors. Jiggs II, who took his place, had a biting problem, and sadly he died soon after becoming the mascot.  Before Jiggs passed he made appearances at football games and even had a role in a movie. Since 1922, the Marines have had a bulldog as a mascot and the current bulldog is named Chesty XV named after five-time Navy Cross recipient Lt. Gen. Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller who was a marine.  While many camps have their own camp mascot, the photo below, from the USMC archives, is Jiggs, who holds the title as the first bulldog Marine mascot. Mascots help boost service members moral, so help us share Jiggs across Facebook as a way to r

9 PREDICTIONS FROM THE GREAT SEER NOSTRADAMUS THAT HAVE SEEMINGLY COME TRUE..

9 Predictions From The Great Seer Nostradamus That Have Seemingly Come True From the rise of Adolf Hitler to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, some of Nostradamus' predictions seem shockingly accurate. Michel de Notredame, more commonly known as Nostradamus, was a 16th-century French astrologer, physician, apothecary, and reputed seer who famously published more than 900 prophecies written in poetic quatrains. These were collected in a book titled Les Prophéties in 1555, with each set of 100 prophecies being referred to as a “Century.” While Nostradamus’ predictions may be poetic in nature, and therefore, up for interpretation, historians have found that some of these predictions appeared to have come true. To this day, some believe that Nostradamus truly did predict future events — ones that he could have had no knowledge of — while others say that his prophecies are too vague to have any real meaning. Was Nostradamus really a seer capable of predicting the future? Or, was he

ON THIS DAY 29th NOVEMBER 1942, RAWDON HUME BECAME THE HERO OF AUSTRALIAN, HE WAS A JACKEROO BEFORE ENLISTING IN THE RAAF.  Flight Sergeant Middleton was captain and first pilot of a Stirling aircraft detailed to attack the Fiat Works at Turin Rawdon Hume 'Ron' Middleton was born on 22 July 1916 at Waverley, Sydney, the great-nephew of explorer Hamilton Hume.  He was a jackeroo before enlisting in the RAAF in late 1940 and after training in Australia, Canada, and Britain, he joined No.149 Squadron, RAF. Flight Sergeant Middleton was captain and first pilot of a Stirling aircraft detailed to attack the Fiat Works at Turin on the night of the 28th November, 1942.  Great difficulty was experienced in climbing to 12,000 feet to cross the Alps, which led to excessive consumption of fuel. During the crossing Flight Sergeant Middleton had to decide whether to proceed or turn back, there being barely sufficient fuel for the return journey.  Flares were sighted ahead and he continued th

STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE: ARMY MEDIC JAMES E. CALLAHAN! REMEMBERING ONE OF OUR HEROES!

STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE: ARMY MEDIC JAMES E. CALLAHAN! REMEMBERING ONE OF OUR HEROES! Some of you may have seen this iconic picture before. The picture is of James E. Callahan was considered one of the most famous pictures taken during the Vietnam War.  Photographer Henri Huet captured a young medic trying to save the lives of his buddies in the midst of machine gun fire on 17 June 1967.  It was not just that which made this a remarkable picture, it was the look on Callahan’s face that told the entire heart wrenching story. A story of desperation and helplessness of sadness and loss. Arguably, the quintessential story of Vietnam. In the picture, Callahan was trying to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a dying Solider.  The battle was three-hour battle long and took place approximately 50 miles northeast of Saigon. Callahan treated numerous fellow Soldiers injuries during the battle.  During the guerrilla ambush on the 1st Infantry Division on that day, thirty-one Soldiers were kil

Most Radioactive Man' Kept Alive For 83 Days As He 'Cried Blood' And Skin Melted

Most Radioactive Man' Kept Alive For 83 Days As He 'Cried Blood' And Skin Melted On September 30, 1999, Hisashi Ouchi was exposed to the highest dose of nuclear radiation in human history. A 35-year-old lab technician at the nuclear plant in Tokaimura, Japan, Ouchi was mixing a uranium solution by hand directly over an open container when he accidentally poured in too much uranium, immediately causing a violent explosion.  For the next 83 days, Ouchi suffered unimaginable agony as the radiation worked its way through his body, obliterating his DNA and causing his skin to melt off and his eyes to weep blood before he finally died.  He begged for death, doctors refused to listen and kept him alive against his will for nearly three excruciating months.  More than 20 years ago, a freak chemical reaction at a power plant in Japan left one of its technicians living in agony, kept alive by doctors as he 'cried blood' and his 'skin melted'. Hisashi Ouchi was helpin

ON THIS DAY, THE GERMANS BEGIN THEIR SURGE TO MOSCOW, LED BY THE FIRST ARMY GROUP, HILTERS FORCES HAD INVADED THE SOVIET UNION IN JUNE, AND BECOME ONE RELENTLESS PUSH TO RUSSIAN TERRITORY.  Hitler confided to General Bock at the time: “Had I known they had as many tanks as that, I’d have thought twice before invading.”   On October 2, 1941, the Germans begin their surge to Moscow, led by the 1st Army Group and Gen. Fedor von Bock. Russian peasants in the path of Hitler’s army employ a “scorched-earth” policy. Hitler’s forces had invaded the Soviet Union in June, and early on it had become one relentless push inside Russian territory.  The first setback came in August, when the Red Army’s tanks drove the Germans back from the Yelnya salient.  Hitler confided to General Bock at the time: “Had I known they had as many tanks as that, I’d have thought twice before invading.”  But there was no turning back for Hitler—he believed he was destined to succeed where others had failed, and captur

Remembering the Bangladesh Liberation War: The Struggle for Independence and the Atrocities of 1971.

Remembering the Bangladesh Liberation War: The Struggle for Independence and the Atrocities of 1971. The Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was a pivotal moment in the history of South Asia. The conflict was sparked by the refusal of the government of Pakistan to recognize the results of the 1970 elections in East Pakistan, where the Awami League, a Bengali nationalist party, had won a majority of seats.  The Pakistan Army launched a military operation in East Pakistan, known as Operation Searchlight, in an attempt to suppress the Bengali nationalist movement and maintain control over the region. The military operation led to widespread atrocities, including mass killings, rape, and forced displacement. The Pakistan Army targeted civilians, particularly members of the Hindu minority, in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. The Bengali nationalist movement, led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his Awami League party, organized resistance against the Pakistani military and formed a provisional go
